(South Eastern Australia)A rich & juicy red with plenty of round berry flavours. We won't pretend this is a $30 wine trapped in an under $10 bottle but its such a great quaffing red with no pointy bits and so much flavour for the price. Drink every day!
Riverland SAIntense crimson purple colour. The nose displays the aromas of ripe spicy plums. The palate is generous with excellent weight and mouthfeel dominated by plums blackberry and spice flavours. Fine grained tannins with plum and stewed fruit aftertaste. A very good commercial quaffer with more palate weight than one normally gets at this price.
(South Australia)'Here's another budget-priced Aussie Shiraz to add to your cellar: Hardy's Nottage Hill Shiraz 2005 from South East Australia. (Riverland Mclaren Vale & Padthaway SA)ViticultureA nice long summer - not too hot not too cold provided a good flavour build up in the vineyard and excellent colours. The grapes were grown in the Riverland Padthaway and McLaren Vale regions of South Australia.Each parcel was fermented separately then blended together after wood maturation.WinemakerGÇÖs CommentsThe 2006 vintage is a lovely wine with great depth of flavour. South Eastern Australia You have probably heard about this wine first on the side of a bus - serious marketing budgets at work! But behind the glossy ads is a very modern interpretation of budget Australian Shiraz - Light smooth fruit flavours with sweet raspberry and a hint of moccha oak. A combination that is all about sweet simple fruit flavours in a likeable if rather one dimensional style. Drink on a Tuesday night after a stupidly hard day when you need a drink that is consistently pleasant without being mind blowing (at a good price too).
Crafted in a drink now mould you would expect this calibre of red to be soft and sweet. But the Oxford Landing Shiraz shows some surprising depth - with rich ripe berry fruits on a round and smooth faintly oaky palate. This fine budget Shiraz is highly recommended with some serious flavour consistency which (given the very low price) is a happy surprise.
(Riverina SA) No matter which way you look at it added preservatives are simply not cool with more and more people reporting adverse reactions to the seemingly innocuous chemicals in our wine. The good news is that somebody listened - preservative free wines are now a reality & this Hardys is one of the leading budget examples. Ripe red musk on a soft and round palate mark this wine as a Shiraz of simple generous fruit flavours and a light more-ish palate.
(Barossa Valley SA) Extraordinarily good value the Long Flat Barossa Shiraz is a lesson in modern winemaking practicality. Forget vineyards & wineries for all the wine for this brand is all sourced under contract. Without the overheads The Long Flat wines cost less to make and thus need to be sold for less - hence the exceptional value of this wine (and the whole range).A 100% Barossan Shiraz this is rich soft and mouthfilling red with luscious fruit and integrated vanillan oak. Matured in older oak the style is warm and generous with the structure to mature very well in the cellar.
(Hunter Hilltops NSW) A new release from the highly lauded Meera Park label this medium bodied wine has wonderful fruit purity and ripe soft tannins making it an exceptional food wine.The 2007 vintage was particularly favourable for the Hunter in particular - producing classic wines. This impressive red defines how good a wine under $15 can be!
