South Australia'Mealy and fragrant smelling with peach stone and kernel.. Has slippery stone fruit flavours in the mouth. Some subtle gingery characters too. A long flinty finish. This is the best value viognier on the planet' Tim White Australi
(Victoria)3 trophies 2 Gold 3 Silver MedalsIts not surprising that this wine came up with the goods - the last vintage was festooned with medals & trophies too! The Zilzie story traces back through decades of grape growing (at one stage they were one of the largest independant grape suppliers to Southcorp)with the Forbes family finally deciding to skip the middle man and start making their own wines in 2000. With massive mature vineyard holdings they were able to 'cherry pick' the best fruit for their own label whilst still maintaining profitability. The result is some of the best value fruit forward wines on the market with an emphasis in particular on alternate varieties.Colour: Light straw. Aroma: Soft apricot and lychee characters with a hint of ginger spice.Palate: This is a soft rich wine with an attractive viscosity on the palate. Dominant stone fruit and lychee flavours are complemented by soft ginger and citrus peel characters
(Adelaide Hills SA)This is a good Viognier. Gloriously light copper it emits luscious and gorgeously complex spice filled aromas. Lovely orange blossom peach apricot honey spice and apple cinnamon follow. Quite upfront in fruit and spice all delivered in a persistent and distinct manner with accompanying purity. Medium dry in style and classically varietal. Ample bodied and mouth filling musk flavours. All delivered with an extended length of finish and well balanced. Have with Chinese style bbq pork. Drinking now for about $20.'Paul Ippolito
(Western Australia)Fruit driven with a crisp palate and a late hit of sweetness. Will cut through spicy food with ease.
(Padthaway SA)Rating - ****'Fresh delicate apricot and orange blossom bouquet. Clear bright apricot and orange peel flavours on a spicy viscous palate that finishes slightly hot.' Winestate Magazine
