(Riverina NSW) A bargain dry red that is light and irrepressibly drinkable in a generous fruit driven quaffing style.
(Griffith NSW) The De Bortoli Sacred Hill Cabernet Merlot is a lesson in the might of the Australian wine industry. It is almost unthinkable to be able to pump out wine this good for this little. Previous vintages of this wine have won trophies and gold medals yet it still remains so cheap. It is a great feeling to happily recommend a wine that cost less than a Big Mac meal yet contains all the components of something fantastic. This is a round fruit drenched red that is punchy and ripe without straying into the raspberry cordial over ripeness like many other cheap Aussie reds. The flavours are a little on the simple side but you can't forgive the wine for tending towards the fruit driven end of the spectrum. It just makes the whole package approachable and ultra friendly. The Sacred Hill Cab Merlot is one of the finest under $8 reds in the nation. Period.
